| The
Richtersveld, South Africa |
| This
beautiful desolate area where people of Khoisan origin live, is a
first for South African conservation authorities. Here the National
Parks Board and the local communities have made a contract where the
resources and benefits are shared and managed. It is also an area
where diamonds are mined and the beautiful landscape competes with
the highly profitable diamond mining industry. Barren and beautiful
it is described by the author of the text Antjie Krog as a place "
where you need a lot of God to live there.”
